Rakhine States Photography Story
Rakhine undoubtedly is a very mysterious part of Myanmar and it is photogenic too. This mountainous area, once the capital of Arakan kingdom highlights any visit by its nostagic charm boasting from archeaological sites, imperial palaces and local ethnic diversity.
Mr. Mike Turner, a very keen photographer from England, on his second trip in Burma has captured some the best of Rakhine through his photos:
Mrauk U, the very first attraction on any itinerary to Rakhine state is home to Yadana Pon, Sitthuang and many other pagodas that offer impressive sunrise and sunset. Whether is is about the archaeology heritage sites or finding a photo of your lifetime, Mrauk U is a great spot to challenge your photography skills
This photo is taken at Koe Thaung, one of the famous sites in Mrauk U exposing the Buddha statues back to 14th century.
Beside the historic sites, Rakhine state also lures Buddhism pilgrimage to some of its scared payas.
On his trip, Mr. Mike Turner explored further than just the obvious sites. As he traveled the Lemro river, he captured the daily life of local people in the most vivid way. The river, with its unique bamboo market, is a stunning place to take photographs

The trade on Lemyo River focuses on bamboo and products from forest.
Photographers also head to Rakhine state to meet Chin hill tribes, including women who have a tradition of face tattooing . This practice is now outlawed, and as such, this unique cultural history is rare and will vanish soon. These women are incredibly friendly, and proud.
