The Great Wall of China

Potala Palace
Named after Mt Potalaka, this spiritual sanctum in Lhasa was the residence of the Dalai Lama since 7th century symbolizes Tibetan Buddhism. Today it is a museum and World Heritage Site, and draws thousands of visitors worldwide. The stupas in the palace are actually Dalai Lamas' tombs and are decorated with precious metals and stones. Only 2300 visitors are allowed per day, so bookings need to be done well in advance, to explore this site.
Temple of Heaven
Constructed between 1406 to 1420, this imperial temple was where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshiped the god of heaven and prayed for good harvests. Covering 2.73 square km, the gigantic temple complex comprises of three sections - The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, The Imperial Vault of Heaven and The Circular Mound Altar. Architecture enthusiast and history lovers would find this UNESCO World Heritage site fascinating.
The Bund Shanghai
Known to be the most recognizable symbols of Shanghai, this waterfront area along the western bank of the Huangpu River in the eastern part of Huangpu District is popular tourist destination. This 1.5 km stretch is known for leisurely stroll, taking a cruise and photography. The architecture with restricted heights along the Bund is a living museum of the colonial history of the 1800s. The nights are lively and a great place to wander.Tiananmen Square
This public plaza in central Beijing, is said to be the largest urban public space in the world with lots of historical significance. The square is surrounded by the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. The square is open to public till midnight, but tourists have to go through security checks. It’s been a spot for taking the those Instagram photos with the entrance of the Forbidden Palace and Mao’s portrait in the background.
West Lake Hangzhou
This iconic, symbolic sight in Hangzhou is regarded as one of the most beautiful sights in China and is a major tourist attraction. The West Lake is divided into five sections by a mountain and three causeways. Three islands stand in the lake along with two pagodas facing each other across the lake. Known for scenic beauty and serene surroundings, boat cruising, biking, leisurely walks are quiet popular among visitors. Known to be the best place to admire the beauty of sunsets, the place is photographer’s paradise.
Yu Garden
Literally meaning “Garden of Happiness” – this extensive garden located beside the City God Temple in the northeast of the Old City of Shanghai, is a 400 yrs old property believed to have been constructed during the Ming Dynasty. This artistic garden covering 5 acres of land is a great spot for photographing ancient architecture, and explore Yuyuan Bazaar. The classical Chinese architecture, exquisite sculptures and carvings will amaze any traveller to this historic place.
Terracotta Army
Considered as world’s greatest archaeological sites, the collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, is a must visit for anyone touring China. This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century and features hundreds of life size model soldiers, horses and chariots in battle array that are basically created by moulded parts, that are fired, assembled and painted.
The Stone Forest
This set of spectacular limestone formations located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, in China, is a major tourist attraction. Over 270 million years of abusive geological processes, and erosion by water has carved the limestone into the present formation of karsts. Labyrinth of varied shapes such as pinnacle shaped, column shaped, mushroom shaped and pagoda shaped stones feature in this 400 square km area. For tourists, apart from this natural beauty, there’s an opportunity to enjoy the delightful performance of Sani minority people, who live around the Stone Forest.
Summer Palace Kunming
Located in northwest Beijing, this preserved imperial garden covers an expanse of 2.9 sq kms and is largely dominated by Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake. Visitors would need almost half a day to explore this 268 yrs old masterpiece of landscape garden. Leshan Giant Buddha
Carved into the side of Mt. Lingyun, this colossal statue of 71 mt height is over 1,300 years old and is considered to be the largest stone Buddha in the world.
