Photography Travel differs from all type of holidays you may have experienced. It is about all characters of people, culture, landscapes and camera skills. Whether you want to capture the story, destinations in any style, these tips are very useful for your travel:

1. Carrying Light

If travelling and photography both is your passion, it’s pretty easy to get carried away while packing your bags. No, you will not be able to take all those kits you have, the bag would be too heavy and leave alone the insurance expenses.
Carry one best camera, a few memory cards, mini tripod and you can also try the Gorilla pod which is too flexible, one flash unit, a few good lenses, a compact storage case and a nice camera bag.
Travel with all these important things but not taking any extra items assuming you would take better photographs.

2. Selecting the perfect lenses

Travelling is a massive scope for the photographers to take stunning captures but lens plays the lead role here. For all the budget photographers, choose one glass that has fast zoom like an 18-200mm or maybe 28-300mm and similar ones. The best focal lens is the one that has a generous wide angle and continues to telephoto is the best.
Now if you are flexible enough, choose a portrait primer lens, again a wide angle lens as well as a telephoto.

3. Rule of Thirds

You can consider is as one of the thumb rules as this is a very basic tip for creating balanced capture. You have to imagine segregating the image into thirds both vertically and horizontally. This helps the photo to split into various sections.
The aim is to position essential parts into the sections and frame the image in a proper way. This becomes easy if you turn on the ‘grid feature’ of your camera and the rule will be displayed on the screen.

4. Shooting in ideal mode

It’s important to shoot a JPEG and RAW right so that there is ample flexibility. This means you must be carrying many high capacity memory chips.
You should cultivate the habit of downloading images in a storage device or a laptop so that you can empty your memory cards.

5. Experimenting with composition

If you do some experiment, it’s obvious that you will come out with awesome composition. You can first click standing straight but then try at low angle as well or maybe you can climb up for a higher angle.
Different angles, distances and shots will bring a sense of variety. Remember, the first image is never the final one for sure. Include different interesting background images for interesting composition. When it comes to travel photography, focal compression (using high zoom) also plays a big role.

6. Human element

Try adding human subjects in your photographs because it helps the viewers to connect better. Adding life is a way of adding more emotion to the images and making it realistic. You can do this by clicking at an angle as if the subject is anonymous.
Every photo that has human element, tells a unique story.

7. Shoot in manual mode as well

Do you think that the AUTO mode is the best just because the modern cameras have it? It’s true that this mode clicks good pictures but the manual mode is for stunning images. There are cameras settings that you need to learn to adjust for best photos.
Switch to the MANUAL mode and take control, compare images and you will be convinced. Manual mode images are always devoid of much noise and the difficult lightings are dealt with.

8. Locations

Its important to research about the location, know a bit more about the place and culture. Explore the place, know the best locations, talk to the locals, soak into the culture and gather as much tourist information possible. Only then you will have the possibility of clicking the best images and a whole lot of shots.

9. Patience is all you need

Photography is all about patience; it’s about connecting your eyes to your mind and soul. For this, you require time, patience and sheer willingness. Pay close attention to details, choose photogenic areas and corners. Try different shots till you are satisfied, hold on to it. Wait for the best because amazing travel photography takes time.

10. Take notes

Every night after a day’s hard work, take some time to write down a few lines about the events and photographs you have taken. This will help you to relate, get references, add good keywords, write proper descriptions and people will be more interested in appreciating one such organized travel photographer.
