Do I need a Visa to visit Mergui?

A visa is a must to visit Mergui like the rest of Myanmar. You can obtain the Myanmar visa online for tourism purposes to travel to Mergui. 
Exception: if you just want to do a day tour to Mergui from Kawthaung, you can try the Visa Run from the Thailand side. There is a special visa at Rannong- Kawthaung border gate that allows visitors to come to Myanmar for a day and then come back to Thailand.

What is the best time to visit the Mergui Archipelago?

We recommend you explore Mergui from November to April. 
The rainy season from May to early October is not good for seeing the islands. Day tours still can be arranged but not long day safaris. 

How far is Mergui from Yangon ?

The distance from Yangon to Mergui is about 800km. 
It takes about 25 hours to drive. 

How to get to Mergui 

There are two main accesses to Mergui: Kawthaung and Myeik town. You can also embark on a long day sailing from the Dawei peninsula. 
To reach Kawthaung from Yangon you can take a flight for 3,5 hours or book an overland tour which takes about 4 days from Yangon. 
The flight from Yangon - Kawthaung is not a daily one so please check with us for your travel date to make sure you`ll have the flight as expected.
The only option to get to Myeik town is by car. It is recommended to combine to enjoy the roads: Yangon - Hpa An - Mawlamyin - Dawei then Myeik. It could be an attractive packed tour for 5 days and 4 nights, soaking both the cultural heritages of southern Myanmar and the waterway of Mergui. 

Are there any good hotels in the Mergui Archipelago?

Choices for hotels in Mergui are not plenty, not to say limited. However, there are some good choices :
- Boulder Eco Resort: a private resort located on a charming island. It is about 1-hour sail from Kawthaung.
- Wa Ae Resort: arguably the most luxurious resort that you`ll love at first sight. A wonderful place for a romantic getaway.
- Victoria Cliff Resort Nyaung Oo Phee Island: a beachfront resort with a wide range of experiences to immerse in.
- Victoria Cliff Hotel& Resort is a good choice in Kawthaung. It provides not only high-end services but also amazing sea views. 

How safe are cruises in the Mergui Archipelago?

All cruises in Mergui are very safe. Many of them are newly made and in good technical condition. All cruises have life vests in the cabin as well public areas. 
There is no cruising accident so far in Mergui. 

Should I book a tour of the Mergui Archipelago in advance?

Early booking is far better than the last minute for any travel to Mergui. There are many reasons to do so:

What should I bring onboard when cruising in Mergui?
