Gokteik Viaduct
Once the highest viaduct in the world, Gokteik Viaduct is now a popular spot for visitors who travel between Mandalay and Hsipaw. The train ride over this verdant valley is full of interaction, fun and thrill.

Location and History
Gokteik Viaduc is located near Nawnghkio village. It was fabricated by Pennysylvania Steel and shipped to Myanmar from Great Britain in 1901. The viaduct was contrusted by sir Arthur Rendel, an engineer worked for Burma Railroad Company.The whole bridge is man-made with about 700m long and over 100 high.
Unique Adventure for Local Interaction
The ride over Gokteik is probably one of the most rewarded experiences in Shan State. This part of Myanmar Train Travel is not expensive yet offering so much interaction with local people.Many choose the journey from Hsipaw to Mandalay which lasts for 4,5 hours while the other stops at Pyin Oo Lwin, famous for European like hill station and it takes about 3,5 hours. These travels allows you to meet vendors, fruit sellers both onboard and at the stations the train passes through.
For a glimpse of the area, you can also take just a short ride over the Viaduct for 20 minutes as part of our Photography Tours.
