Bhamo Travel Guide

Most travelers take this place to be just a resting place during their journey to places like Bhamo. If possible, you must take a day or two from your voyage and discover this town full of attractions.
There are only two ways to reach Bhamo; a flight from Mandalay or a sail from Katha. For foreigners the road in forbidden to be traveled on due to some laws. Getting around the town is easy as the place is small and it is enjoyable to stroll around on foot.
If one really wants to have an enjoyable day, there is the ancient Shwe Kyina Pagoda which is located nearly 3 miles to the North of the town. You will find two commendable gold topped stupas which mark the site of the historic 5th-century city, Sampanago. There are seldom some remnants of the city; maybe some bricks and posts still barely standing.

Hotels

•    The Friendship Hotel: this hotel has decent rooms and has the facility of private bathrooms in some rooms. In the restaurant menu, there is a healthy buffet breakfast and many other dishes available on order for lunch and dinner. As you leave the hotel, they present you with water and food in a bag with a map of Mandalay and Bagan.
•    The Paradise Hostel: it has tidy and innovative rooms with the availability of air conditioners. You will find a restaurant next to the hotel with the same name where you can enjoy lovely foods available on discount if you have a room in the hotel.
•    Grand Hotel: this is another suitable hotel for visitors who has a tight budget. The rooms are fitting for a one-night stay and the bathrooms are fairly usable.

Staying a night in Bhamo is of no use if you do no get around the wonderful town.

Services in Town

Sut Ngai
 Sut Ngai is a popular restaurant that serves BBQ dishes and is known as a Kachin specialty; dishes like roasted pork flavored with lime and served in a banana leaf as well as draft Tiger beer. Tourists should know that no English is spoken here, so just point at what others are eating to communicate with the waiters. 

Shamie Restaurant
Another traditional restaurant which serves scrumptious curries. Eight unique and rare flavors are prepared and served with rice and vegetable dishes. The real thing that the tongue is the amazing homemade chutney (made from tamarind).

Sein Sein
Although they exaggerate a lot with their round tables and attractive beer posters decorated all over, the Chinese food cooked here is promised to be the best in town and the Dragon Beer makes the food utterly delicious. This restaurant can be found near the IWT office.

The renowned bamboo bridge is a must see for travelers. Bring your cameras and take superb pictures with your friends with this amusing structure.

The Bhamo Market
After all, Myanmar is famous for its lively markets. This market is Bhamo is no different that popular tradition. This market is situated near the river (around the Friendship Hotel). Bargaining at the veggies, fruits and the interesting Chinese products is a fun thing to do while you enjoy the hustle till late at night.
