Located by the Pilu River, Loikaw is one of the least visited areas in Shan state, Myanmar. Most of visitor are attracted by the fascinating culture of ethnic hill tribes while Loikaw also boasts magnificent landscapes with mountain top pagodas, awe-inspiring caves and volcano lakes

What to see in Loikaw

The most famous pagoda is Taung Kwe Paya which situates amisd the busy street of the town, exposing the grand breathtaking view to its surroundings. 
Another very well known site is Thiri Mingarlarpon Kyang, once the palace of Kayah's saopha, sky princes, until 1959. In 1987, when the last Saopha passed away, the palace was donated for a local Buddhist organization and now a monastery.
For those who are fascinated about local culture, a short visit to Kayah cultural museum could be interesting. 
For a day trip from the town, we suggest a little adventure to Seven Step Lakes and Kyat Cave which allows you to immerse into the rural atmosphere of the wild Kayah nature.

Above everything, the primier draw for all traveler is probably the eagerness of unveil the sealed life of the long neck tribe - the Padaung. Embark on a day trek or even a homestay trek from village to village, you will understand deeper the special lifestyle in the mountain of Kayah.

How to get there

From Yangon or other big cities, flying to Heho airport then catch a private car to Loikaw.
If you are about to visit Inle Lake, the route Inle - Sagar - Loikaw surprises even the most sophisticated explorer.
