Natural Wonders

Stretching over 50 square miles, Popa National Park is was an active volcano over three hundred and twenty thousand years ago. Nowadays, travelers still find the signature of the volcano`s soil from many areas inside the park.
The park houses dusky leaf monkey, barking deers and wild pigs as well a high number of tropical birds. The forest includes palm trees, exotic plants.
The main mass of Mt. Popa rests on a level plateau, roughly 1000 feet above the surrounding plains, and about 1800 feet above sealevel. The actual volcano rises about 3000 feet from this base

Buddhism Site

Perched on the top hill of the park, Popa Kalat Monastery is believed to shrine many Nats - spirits of Burmese ancestors. According to Burmese people, Popa is known as the " mountain of spirits" and today, local people pay their highest respect to the top hill pagoda.
The pagoda of Kalat is also refered as one of the best place to do meditation in Myanmar. 
Another thing we should mention about Popa is its stunning view to the region.

Visiting Guide

From Bagan, it takes more than 1 hour car drive and you need to climb 777 steps to reach the peak of Popa. 
Popa is located on the way to Inle Lake and Mandalay so you can consider it as an overnight stop if you travel onward to the mentioned areas.
Dress modestly, shoulder and knee should be covered when you visit the Monastery and the pagoda.
