The morning train starts at 5.00 am and arrives in Yangon at 23.00pm. That means you`ll the whole day on the train for this trip. 
The overnight train from Yangon to Mandalay starts at 15.45 and arrives at 9.00am the next day.
Please note that departure and arrival times may fluctuate. 

How long does it take the train from Yangon to Mandalay

Is it safe to travel by train from Yangon to Mandalay

The train is very safe in Myanmar. It has had no accidents for decades. There happened some delays or small technical issues but no accidents.

Is it good to take the overnight train to Mandalay?

The overnight train is more comfortable than the day train. Compare to the bus, the train is slower but it has a good location, easy to access while the bus station is outside the city and it costs a little more to reach its location.

How to book a train ticket in Yangon?

The traditional way of purchasing a ticket is still good in Yangon: buying at the ticket counter - train station.
Online ticketing is also available now but it does not mean you will have an E-ticket. These online companies will buy the ticket at the train station and deliver it to you at your hotel/ accommodation. The service is convenient as you can book in advance and avoid the overbooked situation.

What is the baggage allowance for the train from Yangon to Mandalay?

There is no limit to luggage on the train. However, the luggage space is pretty small for the upper-class seat so big suitcase is not good in this case.
For a sleeping berth, you will have space under your bed to store your luggage.
