Taking a River Cruise to Mingun 

Exploring the royal capital of Mandalay while relaxing on a river cruise to Mingun is the best way to spend family vacation with kids. A boat trip to Mingun, sailing through the mighty Irrawaddy is an unforgettable experience.
Enroute to Mingun, kids get unique opportunity to witness the local life along the river – the rustic villages, pagodas, shrines, farmers, fisherman are all lined up to a serene beauty. Reaching Mingun is equally exciting, it offers chances to spot the largest working bell in the world, the unfinished pagoda that is the largest single mass of brick building in the world.

Go Irrawaddy Dolphin Watching

One of the exciting things to do in Mandalay is go for Irrawaddy dolphin watching with kids. These fresh water species are endangered ones and diminishing in numbers. These wild mammals help the local fisherman on their daily catch.
The cooperative fishing with the dolphins are something to watch out for on this trip. Spotting Irrawaddy dolphins on a boat trip to Indaung Village or Myay Zun Village can be truly an unforgettable moment, which the kids will surely enjoy.

Visit Royal Palace

This royal palace of the last Burmese monarchy is a great place to visit with family. Constructed between 1857 to 1859, this traditional Burmese architecture inside a walled fort surrounded by a moat, is where one gets a glimpse of the historic past.
The artifacts remaining in the Palace are the beautiful reflection of the glorious past of King Mindon and his royal lifestyle.

Visit Wood Carving Workshop

When it comes for a true hand on hand experiences, Mandalay has many things to traditional workshops to tempt your children. Wood carving workshop is a such attractions, giving chances to watch the talented craftsmen create some spectacular handicrafts.
Kids accompanying their parents would be fascinated to find wooden figures of Buddha, religious items made of wood, and other decorative items carved out of wood.
The workshops mostly are near the Mahamuni Pagoda and in Tampawaddy, and a great place to pick up few souvenirs. The young visitors can try their hands on chisels and gouges to create few stuffs under the guidance of experienced craftsmen.

Explore the Flower Market

The bustling flower market of Mandalay is a photogenic spot where the sellers from distant mountains and buyers from lively city converge.
This colourful, vibrant market is where flowers for different purposes are sold early in the morning and by midday it is littered with multi-coloured cloud of blossoms and piles of cut stems and leaves. Kids here will definitely be amazed with the huge assortment of varied colours and smells.

Read the biggest book at Kuthodaw Pagoda

In an era when kids are mostly engrossed with Kindle or other e-readers; a visit to Kuthodaw Pagoda that houses ‘world’s largest book’ is exciting and fascinating.
Built in 1857 by King Mindon, this gorgeous temple is completely gilded on the exterior, giving it the look of a solid gold spectacle. The true spectacle lays within the stark white stupas that surround its base. Beneath the pinnacle roofs of the squat little structures are 730 marble tablets covered on both sides with dense script. To the little visitors this would be a memorable visit.
